Nearly One Million People Entered the TRNC by Sea and Air in the First Half of the Year
In the second quarter of 2024, a total of 520,251 people arrived in the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus (TRNC) by sea and air. This marks a 17.8% increase in passengers compared to the same period last year.
According to a report by the Central Bank of the TRNC, the number of passengers arriving by sea and air in the first half of 2024 saw a 25.3% increase, bringing the total to 976,604.
During the same period, 1,295,302 people crossed into Northern Cyprus through land borders (excluding TRNC citizens). This is a slight decrease compared to the 1,350,155 people who crossed in the second quarter of the previous year.
The report noted that 760,810 of those entering via land crossings were citizens of the Republic of Cyprus, while 534,492 were from other countries.
The number of TRNC citizens leaving through land crossings also saw a significant increase, rising by 13.6% in the second quarter of 2024 compared to the same period in 2023, with a total of 735,724 people departing.
Previously, it was reported that while the number of Greek Cypriots crossing into the TRNC has decreased in the first seven months of 2024, the number of Turkish Cypriots crossing into Cyprus has increased. Among foreign nationals, British citizens remain the most frequent visitors crossing the border.
