Tomorrow in Nicosia, 30-minute Rotational Power Outages Will Take Place
The Northern Cyprus Electricity Authority (KIB-TEK) announced that on Sunday, 13 October, several districts of Nicosia (Lefkoşa) will experience planned rotational power outages. The maintenance work will take place between 09:00 and 15:00, with each area experiencing a 30-minute outage in rotation.
According to the company, the outages are necessary for preventive maintenance of distribution lines and transformers within the Nicosia power hub. The works aim to improve the stability of the electricity supply and prevent unexpected failures.
The temporary outages will affect the following areas of the capital: Lefkoşa Industrial Zone (Sanayi Bölgesi), Taşkınköy, Göçmenköy, Hamitköy, Yenikent, Gönyeli, Ortaköy, Ecevit Yusuf, Anıttepe, Kaymaklı, Metropol, Mahkemeler, Ledra Palace, and nearby neighborhoods. The interruptions will also impact Burhan Nalbantoğlu State Hospital (Dr. Burhan Nalbantoğlu Devlet Hastanesi), the Central Prison (Merkez Cezaevi), Atatürk Sports Complex (Atatürk Spor Kompleksi), the Ministry of Finance (Maliye Bakanlığı), and the Parliament building of the TRNC (Cumhuriyet Meclisi).
KIB-TEK urges residents and organizations to disconnect sensitive equipment and avoid using high-power appliances during maintenance hours. The company also warned that after power restoration, minor voltage fluctuations may occur, and advised switching devices back on gradually.
The electricity authority emphasized that these temporary rotational outages are part of a scheduled medium-voltage network modernization plan, which will help reduce system load during peak hours. The full outage schedule is available on KIB-TEK’s official channels.
