TRNC Residents Warned of "Severe Losses" Due to Extreme Heat
Environmental scientist Ergün Bey has warned residents of the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus (TRNC) about the "serious losses" expected from the upcoming extreme heat. Over the next few days, temperatures may rise as much as 10°C above the seasonal average. Bey highlighted the rising temperatures in a post on his social media account.
According to the expert, the region has already been experiencing extreme weather for nearly two weeks: February brought severe cold, and now an abnormal heatwave is setting in.
"Temperatures are expected to rise by 10°C above the seasonal norm in just a few days. If we don’t plan and adapt, we will face major ecological, economic, and human losses," the environmentalist warned.
Bey also predicts that, in the coming years, the region will experience more frequent heatwaves, which could occasionally lead to breathing difficulties.
Since the beginning of the week, Northern Cyprus has seen warm weather, with temperatures climbing daily. The Meteorological Department has announced that by Monday, temperatures will be 9–11°C higher than the seasonal average.
