Residents of Cyprus to Witness a Unique Planetary Parade
At the end of February, a rare astronomical event will take place in the skies over Cyprus. For just one night, seven of the planets in our Solar System visible from Earth will line up in a perfect row. Six of these planets will already be visible throughout January.
According to a post by the Cyprus Astronomical Organization on social media, this spectacular planetary alignment will occur on February 28. The planets that will align include Saturn, Mercury, Neptune, Venus, Uranus, Jupiter, and Mars.
Anyone interested in observing the event will be able to do so with telescopes or binoculars. On that same night, it will also be possible to view Saturn’s iconic rings and the moons of Jupiter. Those with more advanced equipment will even be able to catch a glimpse of the bluish Neptune or the greenish Uranus.
For those without specialized gear, Venus and Mars will be visible to the naked eye—Venus shining brightly and Mars with its distinctive reddish hue.
The organization has described the event as "a living reminder of the mathematical precision and cosmic order that govern our Solar System." It will provide the scientific community with an opportunity to study planetary dynamics and will surely inspire the next generation of astronomers.
In addition, throughout January, Venus, Mars, Jupiter, and Saturn will all be visible in the sky above Cyprus. Venus and Mars will be most visible around January 17 and 18, while Uranus and Neptune can only be seen through telescopes. On February 28, Mercury will join the planetary parade.
