In the Sınaryüstü area, located within the municipality of İskele in Northern Cyprus, owners of social housing plots have announced the creation of an initiative group aimed at improving infrastructure. Although 73 houses have already been built in the area and two more are nearing completion, local residents face serious problems due to the lack of basic living conditions.

The main concerns of citizens are related to the absence of asphalt roads, sidewalks, and other essential engineering networks necessary for safe and comfortable living. According to the organizers, although the government provided plots and housing as part of a rural program, no work has been done to ensure infrastructure. People have to reach their homes via unlit and washed-out dirt roads, and during rainy weather, movement becomes almost impossible.

Representatives of the initiative group emphasize that for a long time they have been appealing to various government bodies, including the Ministry of Interior, but received neither responses nor concrete actions. As a result, the residents decided to unite and create an official platform called “Infrastructure Initiative of Rural Plot Owners in Sınaryüstü.”

The goal of this initiative is to achieve a collective and more effective dialogue with the authorities and draw public attention to the problems faced by new residents of the area. Participants intend to demand that the state fulfill its obligations to provide basic infrastructure: road construction, sidewalks, street lighting, and water supply.

The initiative's representatives reminded that government programs for rural housing include not only the construction of houses but also the creation of all necessary living conditions. Otherwise, they argue, citizens are left with “bare walls” rather than proper housing. The statement also emphasizes that government inaction undermines trust in public initiatives and deprives people of a sense of safety and stability.

Residents plan to organize a press conference where they will provide more details about the current situation and the next steps of their initiative group. They called on all those facing similar problems in other areas to join the movement and stand up for their rights together.
