TRNC Residents Voice Concerns Over Call to Prayer Volume
Residents of Northern Cyprus have expressed concerns over the volume of the call to prayer. Opinions are sharply divided: for some, the volume is too loud, while for others, it’s too quiet.
Ahmet Ünsal, the Director of Religious Affairs in the TRNC, made this statement. He explained that the religious authority is taking both types of complaints seriously and is working to find a balance that satisfies everyone, aiming to reduce the number of complaints as much as possible.
Ünsal further noted that the call to prayer has been broadcast through a centralized public address system since 2008, but there are still some challenges, particularly in finding individuals who can recite the call correctly.
- “We are looking to implement a more modern and centralized system that will not be susceptible to external interference. Unfortunately, we are facing financial difficulties in making this upgrade. However, we are committed to reducing the number of complaints as quickly as possible,” Ahmet Ünsal stated.
He also emphasized that the call to prayer will "never stop," as it remains an essential part of life in Northern Cyprus.
