Shipwreck Museum
Description
The Kyrenia Castle (Girne Kalesi) on the northern coast of Northern Cyprus was built by the Byzantines in the 7th century and later expanded by the Crusaders, Genoese, and Venetians. After the Ottoman conquest in 1571, it served as a garrison and later as a prison under British rule.
Today, the well-preserved castle is a tourist attraction overlooking the harbor. It houses the Shipwreck Museum, which contains an ancient sunken vessel from the 4th century BC, along with numerous historical artifacts.
