Eid al-Adha in Northern Cyprus 2024
In 2024, Kurban Bayram starts on the night of June 15th to 16th, with the main celebrations scheduled for June 16th.
General Information
The four-day Eid al-Adha will begin on Sunday. Combined with the weekend, the holiday will last five days. At 06:10, a festive prayer will be performed in all mosques in the country.
President Ersin Tatar and his wife Sibel Tatar will celebrate Eid with the public at the Presidential Office at 10:00 on the first day of Eid. President and Prime Minister of the National Unity Party Ünal Üstel will also meet with party members at the party headquarters at 09:30 on the first day of Kurban Bayram.
Sacrifices
Prices for Sacrifices
A sacrificial lamb is offered for sale at an average price of 13,000-17,000 Turkish Lira, while a calf finds buyers for 100,000-130,000 Turkish Lira.
Waste
Additional services for collecting sacrificial waste will also be provided. Citizens who will perform the sacrifice at home can call the municipality at 0548 816 6074 and request to collect the sacrificial waste. Carcasses, which should be placed in large garbage bags, will be promptly collected by mobile teams to prevent unpleasant odors.
Police and Services Work
The Police Headquarters will work with the public 24 hours a day during the Eid holiday.
For complaints and requests for assistance, "155 Police Help, 199 Fire Department, 156 Narcotics" and other telephone lines will be available to the public 24 hours a day without interruption during the Eid holiday.
During the Eid holiday, residents of the TRNC will be able to report all their requests to the Alo 185 Solution Line 24 hours a day.
Nicosia
The Nicosia Public Health Department and the Elderly Services Department will also be on duty to provide emergency assistance, as will the team to assist people with special needs. The animal shelter in Nicosia will continue to provide regular care and feeding services, and water and food for stray animals. The garbage collection work regularly performed by the LTB Cleaning Department will continue without delays or disruptions during the holiday.
İskele
The Police Department of the İskele Municipality will patrol the fairground and continue on duty during the festival. The Environment and Health Department will also continue its inspections and respond to complaints. The İskele Municipality will also continue uninterrupted work on cleaning, burial, and water supply during the holiday. The municipal slaughterhouse in İskele will be open from 07:00 to 15:00 on Sunday and Monday, the first and second days of the holiday.
Lefke
The Lefke Municipality will continue work on cleaning cemeteries and garbage during the Sacrifice Holiday. The water department will continue to operate in case of emergencies.
Famagusta
The Famagusta Municipality will also continue its work. The Famagusta Municipal Slaughterhouse, which will operate on the eve of the holiday, will be open throughout the holiday for sacrifices. All municipal units will have emergency response teams on duty in case of emergencies, and they can be contacted at 185 or 0548 816 6002 if necessary. The current program for household waste collection will be carried out without any changes during the holiday, and general street cleaning will continue on the first day of Eid and on the main streets on the remaining days.
Girne
The Girne Municipality units will also continue to provide all regular services from the first day of the holiday. Citizens will be able to pay bills through KIOSK devices in the new building of the Girne Municipality and the Girne Municipality terminal offices, as well as online at www.girnebelediyesi.com.
Güzelyurt
The Güzelyurt Municipality will also continue cleaning roads, streets, and avenues during the holiday. Household waste from residential buildings and workplaces in the center and villages will be collected by crews without disrupting the usual program. During the holiday, a standby crew formed for any network failures will be on duty. Additionally, cemetery staff will be on duty during the holiday, and services will be provided without interruptions. The Güzelyurt Municipality building will be open from 09:00 to 13:00 on Saturday so that citizens can pay bills. The slaughterhouse will be open for those wishing to slaughter sacrificial animals on the first and second days of the holiday and closed on the third and fourth days.
Markets and Fairs Work
The open market, which opens in the center of Nicosia on Sundays, will be open on Saturday, June 15th, instead of Sunday, June 16th, the first day of Kurban Bayram.
During the Eid holiday, a festival area will be organized at the fairground in Nicosia. The municipal market (Bandabulya) will be closed on the first, second, and third days of Kurban Bayram. On Wednesday, June 19th, the fourth day of the holiday, it will be available to the citizens again.
The Bayram Fair, which will open on Friday, June 14th, on the public beach of the İskele Municipality, can be visited from 14:00 to 24:00 during the operating hours of the amusement park. The "Bayram" fair will end on Sunday, June 23rd.
The "Babuca" buffet on the public beach of the İskele Municipality will be open from 08:00 to 24:00 during the holiday, and the "Picnic" restaurant in the İskele Municipality picnic area will be closed on the first day of the holiday and will be open from 16:00 to 24:00 on the eve and other festive days.
