Ticket Offices at Girne Port

The ticket offices are located in a building next to the port, on the left side if you are facing the sea and the port building. Even if you bought your ticket online, you need to get a boarding pass at this building. The picture below shows what this building looks like.

Border Control at Girne Port

There are several passport control windows available during boarding, depending on which ferry the passengers are taking. In general, the queue moves quite quickly. Security screening requirements before passport control are fairly relaxed—there are no restrictions on carrying liquids, as well as sharp or cutting objects.

Duty-Free Shops at Girne Port

After passing through passport control, there is a small duty-free shopping area. It doesn’t compare to even the smallest airports, but the essentials of a duty-free store are available. However, in the shops of Northern Cyprus, the prices for alcohol and cigarettes are similar, if not lower.

How to Get There and Parking at Girne Port

Public transport doesn’t go directly to the port; the nearest stop is at the intersection of Mersin and Fazıl Küçük Streets, from where it’s a 500-meter walk to the port. Taxis, of course, will take you right to the entrance. You can find the port’s location on the map below.

If you are driving to drop someone off or pick them up from the port, you are allowed to enter the port territory, but you cannot leave your car there. However, there is a nearby parking lot where you can leave your car if you're going away for a few days. Its coordinates are: 35.33910063360867, 33.331786618132355. We also placed the location of this parking lot on the map below.

Frequently Asked Questions about Girne Port

How early should I arrive at the port?

Passenger boarding starts 2 hours before departure and ends half an hour before departure. But if you're traveling with a car, it's best to arrive at least two hours beforehand, as a long queue tends to form.

Are the queues long during boarding?

It depends on the ferry. For example, the sea bus to Anamur is quite fast, but for ferries to Mersin (Taşucu port), the queue includes both passengers and drivers, making the process slower.

Is parking near the port free?

You can park for free directly near the port, but this area is not suitable for long-term parking. The parking lot marked on the map below has two parts—a gated, paid section (though the gate is often up, and there's no security) and a free section closer to residential buildings, essentially in the same lot.
