In Northern Cyprus (TRNC), driving licenses are divided into categories based on the type of vehicle. These categories determine what types of vehicles the driver is allowed to operate. Below is a breakdown of the TRNC driving license categories.

Category A — Buses

Allows the operation of buses designed for passenger transport. To obtain this category, the driver must have driving experience and complete additional training for passenger transport.

Category B — Trucks and Trailers

Grants the right to drive large vehicles, including trucks and vehicles with trailers. Often required for commercial transport.

Category C — Minibuses

Allows driving small passenger buses (up to 16 seats). Used for school buses, tourist minibuses, and corporate transport.

Category D — Cars with Manual and Automatic Transmission

The most common category for passenger cars. Permits driving both manual and automatic vehicles, up to 8 seats.

Category E — Tractors and ATVs

Grants the right to operate agricultural machinery and ATVs. Often required by farmers and landowners.

Category F — Forklifts

Allows operation of forklifts and other warehouse equipment. A special safety course is required.

Category G — Road Rollers

Grants the right to operate road construction machinery, including rollers and asphalt pavers.

Category H1 — Motorcycles up to 125 cc

For light motorcycles and scooters with engines up to 125 cubic centimeters.

Category H — Motorcycles 250 cc and above

For more powerful motorcycles.

Category J — Motorcycles up to 50 cc

For small mopeds and scooters.

Category K — Graders

Allows operation of heavy construction machinery — graders used in road construction and repair.


Additional: TRNC driving licenses are issued for periods ranging from 1 to 10 years. Renewal is carried out at the Vehicle Registration and Licensing Branch (official site).
