Aphrodite's Baths
In this natural cave located within the Akamas National Park, there is a shallow pool surrounded by ferns and a large fig tree that provides shade. The pool is fed by a natural spring. It is believed that the waters here possess special rejuvenating properties.
The Legend of Adonis
According to myths, Aphrodite regularly bathed in this pool, and it was here that she first met her love—Adonis—who drank from the water while hunting. They regularly met near this spring, and after Adonis' death during a boar hunt, the goddess of beauty continued to come here.
Surroundings of the Baths
The baths themselves are just a small part of what is offered here. Entering the Akamas nature reserve park from the parking lot leading to the grotto, you will pass through a botanical garden where most of the perennial local plants of this region grow.
From the baths, you can take a walk along the legendary path where the goddess of love walked after bathing, and also sit under a large oak tree where Aphrodite rested (it is located here). The trail splits into two hiking routes named "Aphrodite" and "Adonis." Both routes are approximately 5 km long and will take you around two hours to complete.
From the coastal trail, you can enjoy magnificent views of the sea. There are places for swimming and relaxation on some nearby beaches.
Besides, some ancient artifacts related to the "Path of Aphrodite" are kept in the local archaeological museum of Marion-Arsinoe in Polis Chrysochous, which is worth visiting if you are in this area.
