Governor's Beach in Cyprus
Governor's Beach is considered one of the most unusual beaches on the island of Aphrodite.
Located near the village of Pentakomo, about ten kilometers east of Limassol’s main hotel district, the famous Governor's Beach is one of the island’s most popular coastal areas and is known for its chalky white cliffs plunging into the blue sea.

Governor's Beach in Cyprus
In fact, it is a whole collection of small coastal spots located 20 km from Limassol. Each one is a secluded cove between white cliffs, with dark sand and a shallow entrance to the sea.
Governor's Beach has been awarded the “Blue Flag,” confirming its cleanliness and compliance with European environmental standards.
There are several luxury hotels and a campsite near the beach — one of the largest on the island. You can stay overnight in your own tent or rent one on-site. The nearest hotel is 100 meters from the beach and offers a panoramic view of the bay.
Origin of the beach's name
The beach owes its “political” name to the British governor of Cyprus, who loved the area and used to swim in its waters during his visits. The surrounding landscapes are rightfully considered some of the most picturesque in Cyprus: chalk cliffs of milky or bright white color, a coastal strip of dark volcanic sand, turquoise sea near the shore, and deep blue on the horizon. The beach is a popular spot for photo shoots among both Cypriots and tourists.
What tourists love
Tourists are struck not only by the contrasting beauty of the landscapes but also by the tranquility of the place. Even in summer, there is always a quiet spot to relax. In the off-season, the beach becomes an ideal place for those seeking peace and solitude.
- It is recommended not to leave clothes on the rocks, as they may get white chalk stains.
In recent reviews, some visitors reported that there was no water in the showers — something they discovered only after paying. They also noted that after 5:30 PM the beach becomes shaded, making it unsuitable for sunbathing or capturing good sunset photos. For impressive shots, it's best to visit the beach before noon.

Governor's Beach Infrastructure
The sand on the beach is dark, volcanic, and coarse-grained. The seabed is flat, with a gentle slope into the water. The depth starts approximately 10 meters from the shore. The coves are not marked by buoys or nets because the sea is shallow.
Swimming is safe for children, although it's recommended not to get too close to the cliffs. On windy days or days with strong waves, swimming is not advised. Stairs lead to the coves, and there are ramps for people with limited mobility.
The beach features sun loungers and umbrellas, changing cabins, showers, benches, and public toilets. Using the shower costs €0.5; changing cabins are free. Renting two sun loungers and one umbrella costs €7.5, according to recent reviews. Access to the beach is free year-round.
On the cliffs near the viewing platform, there is a spacious restaurant serving traditional Cypriot home-style cuisine. Dining there costs around €20–25 per person — more expensive than in Larnaca or Limassol, but the panoramic view makes up for it. At the top of the cliff, there is a small playground for children.
One of the main attractions of Governor's Beach is a decorative white gazebo. It’s a very popular spot for wedding photo shoots and even marriage ceremonies.
It’s worth noting that there are no shops around the beach, so it’s a good idea to bring water and some food if you don't plan on eating at the restaurant.
From April to October, lifeguards with rescue equipment and first aid service are on duty at the beach from 09:00 to 17:00, and during the summer season — until 18:00.
