Trooditissa Monastery in Cyprus
One of the most important monasteries for believers, the highest in elevation, shrouded in mysteries and miraculous relics.
This is an Orthodox monastery dedicated to the Virgin Mary, with an important icon, presumably by Luke, and the Virgin Mary's belt. We should immediately mention that access for tourists is limited, but if you are a believing Orthodox pilgrim, you can visit the monastery.

History of Trooditissa Monastery
The exact founding date of the monastery with the miraculous icon is unknown, but it is believed to have been established shortly after the iconoclastic era by a hermit in the 13th century. The current church was built in 1731, and the monastery buildings can be dated to the late 18th, 19th, and 20th centuries.
Located on the southern slopes of the Troodos Mountains, the Trooditissa church we see today holds an important Christian relic within its walls: a thaumaturgic icon of the Virgin Mary in a silver frame, brought from Asia Minor. According to tradition, it was painted by the evangelist Luke. Also, there is the Virgin Mary's belt—considered to give hope to childless couples.
How to get to the monastery
The monastery is a secluded place for prayer, and therefore it is closed to tourists, although the church is open for visiting believers. First and foremost, the monastery is ready to accept married Orthodox women who want to have children.
If the visitors are a married couple, a binding ritual is performed for them daily. If the couple has not yet been married, the monks take an oath that it will be done soon.
The monastery is located at an altitude of 1300 meters above sea level, and the nearest village to the monastery is Platres. The location on the map can be seen below the text. From Limassol, bus No. 64 goes to the village of Platres from the Archiep. Leontiou A. stop. However, it is still a 6-kilometer drive from Platres.
