Cyprus wineries are usually located in the Troodos Mountains. However, some are close to the capital.

Aes Ampelis Winery

The winery was founded in the early 1990s with the aim of producing wines with a unique character and premium quality. The estate is located on the slopes of Kalo Chorio Orinis in the Nicosia district, 28 km southwest of the capital.

Unique in architectural style, the winery is a two-level structure that includes modern winemaking equipment, an underground cellar for barrel and bottle aging, as well as a tasting and guest reception room that offers views of both the aging cellar and the beautiful mountains. Tastings are accompanied by cheeses and meat products from local producers.

The facility is surrounded by a three-hectare vineyard planted with grape varieties such as Maratheftiko, Shiraz, and Chardonnay. Aes Ampelis Winery is open for visits and tastings all year round. Additionally, visitors can take a tour of the winery and explore the vineyards, as well as the internal workings of the winery, including fermentation and barrel aging.

Santa Irene Winery

The trip here, reaching up to 1300 meters in altitude along less-than-perfect roads, is worth it. The vineyards of Farmakas are among the highest in Cyprus and also among the oldest: some vines were planted 150 years ago.

Equipped with stainless steel tanks and the latest pressing and cooling equipment, the winery can produce up to 50,000 bottles per year. On the top floor of the winery, there is a gallery where visitors can walk along a passageway that provides access to the upper part of the tanks; the main wine processing takes place on the middle floor, while the lowest level houses a compact cellar for storage and aging.
