Concert: Waldstein Piano Trio

The Waldstein Trio, comprising violinist Greta Papa, cellist Miguel Ángel Villeda, and our own Cypriot pianist Christos Fountos — who recently took the world by storm after winning Third Prize at the prestigious Busoni Piano Competition — is already regarded as one of the most promising and exciting chamber ensembles in Europe.

Having performed at leading venues such as Carnegie Hall in New York, the Musikverein in Vienna, and the Mozarteum in Salzburg, and having won top prizes at major competitions including the Manhattan International Music Competition and the Fanny Mendelssohn International Competition, the Waldstein Trio has rapidly established an international reputation for the maturity and sensitivity of its performances, as well as the breadth and ingenuity of its repertoire.

For their concert in Nicosia, the Trio will present a thrilling program featuring Fauré’s Piano Trio in D minor — a work that reveals the composer’s mature style and is marked by luminous introspection and serene, understated beauty — and Tchaikovsky’s Piano Trio in A minor — a monumental and deeply personal work, one of the most profound and emotionally charged in the repertoire.

The concert will also include the world premiere of a new work by Cypriot composer Haris Kittos.
