Poplar Fluff: Ivan Vyrypaev and Tatyana Lazareva
“Poplar Fluff” is a staged reading with elements of stand-up, in which Ivan Vyrypaev and Tatyana Lazareva tell a touching and tragicomic story about Jewish emigration of the 1990s. It is a reflection on relocation and memory, on the fact that people take with them not only suitcases, but also habits, intonations, the past, and inner conflicts.
The production is based on Roman Darev’s book about the lives of emigrants in the United States, who went far away but, in a sense, were never able to leave themselves behind. The audience is offered not only a reading, but also a live, candid conversation about the past and the present, lost identity, guilt, love, and hope. The performance balances between humor and sadness, leaving behind a light nostalgia and a strong emotional aftertaste.
