If you plan to bring your pet to Cyprus, here are the breeds that are banned from being imported to the island.

Prohibited dog breeds in Cyprus

According to the Cyprus Animal Health Law and EU Regulations No. 576/2013 and No. 577/2013 on the non-commercial movement of pets, the following dog breeds are banned from being imported, regardless of their country of origin.

  • Japanese Tosa or Tosa Inu
  • Pit Bull Terrier or American Pit Bull
  • Dogo Argentino or Argentine Mastiff
  • Fila Brasileiro or Brazilian Mastiff

Additionally, the following are also considered prohibited:

  1. Dogs resulting from the crossbreeding of such breeds (e.g., Argentine Mastiff with Brazilian Mastiff);
  2. Dogs resulting from the crossbreeding of any breed with the aforementioned breeds, in which, according to a registered veterinarian, the traits of a dangerous breed are predominant.

Which cats are prohibited from being brought into Cyprus?

Only cats not belonging to the species "Felis silvestris catus," i.e., ordinary domestic cats, are prohibited. For example, this includes feline species such as Savannah, Bengal, Caracal, and their hybrids.

From what age can dogs and cats be brought into Cyprus?

The age of any pet being imported into the Republic of Cyprus must be at least 105 days. Importing pets younger than 105 days is prohibited, regardless of their country of origin.

Is rabies vaccination mandatory?

Importing pets into the Republic of Cyprus without rabies vaccination is prohibited, regardless of their country of origin.
