95% of Cypriots Use the Internet Weekly
According to the statistical service, almost 95% of Cypriots use the Internet at least once a week. Among young people aged 16 to 24, this figure reaches nearly 99.9%.
A survey on the use of information and communication technologies revealed that internet usage remains consistently high across most demographic groups but decreases with age, dropping to 83.3% for individuals aged 55 to 74.
Moreover, the frequency of internet usage among Cypriots depends on their educational level. Among people with higher education, the rate reached 99.6%, while for those with lower educational levels, it was 76.8%.
The most popular online activity among Cypriots is sending text messages through apps such as Skype, Messenger, WhatsApp, and Viber. Internet calls rank second, followed by searching for product or service information, which 94.3% of users engage in.
Additionally, 91.8% of people use social media, mainly Facebook, and 91.3% watch videos. About 10% of respondents reported using the Internet for educational purposes, including attending online classes or communicating with teachers.
In 2024, 63.6% of respondents reported making online purchases, compared to 55.3% last year.
