A 47-year-old Russian man detained in Cyprus has been remanded in custody until his next court hearing, scheduled for December 27, 2024. The man is wanted by Russian authorities on fraud charges.

The Paphos District Court made the decision to extend his detention after he failed to comply with the strict conditions set for his release. These conditions included:

  • A cash bail of €100,000,
  • A signed guarantee of €100,000 from a reputable guarantor,
  • Surrendering all travel documents,
  • Weekly check-ins at the central police station in Paphos, and
  • A travel ban prohibiting visits to the northern part of the island.

Despite these requirements, the man did not fulfill the obligations, prompting the court to order his continued detention.

Deputy Police Chief of Paphos, Michalis Nikolaou, confirmed that the suspect's failure to adhere to the release terms was the reason for the court’s decision.

The Russian national was initially arrested on Monday afternoon. He is wanted in his home country for a fraud-related crime allegedly committed between 2006 and 2015. No further details about the case or the suspect have been disclosed.
