Over 150 veteran swimmers up to 87 years old competed at the Games in Limassol
More than 150 athletes aged up to 87 took part in the 8th International Veteran Games, held over the weekend at the Olympic Swimming Pool in Limassol, Cyprus.
According to the Cyprus Swimming Federation, in excellent weather conditions, many participants — some competing for the fifth or sixth time — achieved remarkable results in a festive atmosphere.
The competitions brought together swimmers from Austria, Bosnia and Herzegovina, France, Germany, the United Kingdom, Greece, Hungary, Ireland, Israel, Poland, Romania, Russia, Serbia, Switzerland, Ukraine, the United States, and Cyprus.
Honorary age awards went to 87-year-old Eugen Iuliu Follert from Romania and 82-year-old Nevena Georgieva from Bulgaria.
Cypriot swimmers won 15 gold, 3 silver, and 5 bronze medals. Notable achievements included Charalambos Panayides (three golds in 50m, 100m, and 200m breaststroke), Chara Ilia (three golds in 50m freestyle, 50m butterfly, and 200m medley), Leonidas Dimitriou (two golds in 800m and 1,500m freestyle; new national record in 800m), and Georgos Katodritis (two bronzes in 200m and 400m freestyle and two new national records).
