Over 80% of Graduates in Cyprus Found Employment
According to data released by the Statistical Office of the European Union (Eurostat), 80.6% of recent graduates in Cyprus secured employment in 2023. This figure is slightly below the European Union (EU) average, which stands at 83.5%.
The study reveals that the EU average saw an increase of 1.1 percentage points compared to 2022, rising from 82.4%.
The survey focused on recent graduates aged 20–34 who completed their studies within the past 1–3 years, whether at the secondary or higher education level.
Notably, the employment rate of recent graduates in the EU has shown consistent growth over the last decade. In 2013, the employment rate was 74.3%, and it has steadily increased since then. The only exception was in 2020, when the rate dropped to 78.7%, a decrease of 2.3 percentage points compared to 2019's 81.0%.
The report also highlights a disparity in employment rates in 2023 between recent graduates with higher education degrees (87.7%) and those with secondary education (78.1%) across Europe.
In total, 22 EU countries reported employment rates of 80% or higher for recent graduates. Malta topped the list with an impressive 95.8%, followed by the Netherlands (93.2%) and Germany (91.5%). On the other end of the spectrum, Italy (67.5%), Greece (72.3%), and Romania (74.8%) recorded the lowest employment rates.
