British Pilot Fired in Cyprus for Sending Explicit Images
A reservist from the Royal Air Force of the United Kingdom was dismissed after sending explicit photos of his genitals to a female colleague while stationed in Cyprus.
According to Cyprus-Mail, the 42-year-old pilot attempted to initiate a conversation with his colleague. When she didn’t respond to his advances, he sent her sexually explicit images over the course of two hours.
Local media reports state that the man was intoxicated when he sent the inappropriate messages. After sobering up, the pilot deleted the offensive photos and apologized to his colleague. However, the woman later revealed that she felt humiliated and frightened by his actions. She expressed concern that he might have sent similar images to other women at the company and worried that he could show up at her home once he returned from Cyprus.
“It affected my self-confidence so much that I considered resigning from the Royal Air Force reserves,” the victim said.
After the woman filed a complaint, the pilot appeared before a military court in Bulford, UK. Assistant Judge Andrew Smith stated that the offense was “serious enough” to justify the pilot’s dismissal, despite his remorse.
In addition to being dismissed from the Royal Air Force, the man was sentenced to 12 months of community service, including 15 days of rehabilitation.
