The number of hospitalized individuals with a diagnosis of Covid-19 in Cyprus has increased by a third over the past week
The number of hospitalized individuals with a diagnosis of Covid-19 in Cyprus has increased by a third over the past week. Currently, there are 90 people in hospitals. This information was provided on Monday by the representative of the State Health Services Organization (Okypy), Haralambos Harilaou. The majority of those hospitalized are individuals over 75 years old who have not been vaccinated in recent months.
Two patients are currently in the intensive care unit, while four others are undergoing treatment in units for severely ill patients.
In the coming days, healthcare professionals anticipate an increase in cases, primarily due to the reopening of schools after the Christmas holidays. People experiencing symptoms have been urged to stay at home.
A representative of Okypy also criticized the Ministry of Health's decision to approve the request of private clinics not to admit Covid-19 patients. Okypy sent a letter to medical services protesting the approval of the request, stating that patients should be treated equally.
It is worth noting that the Cyprus Pharmaceutical Association (CPA) has confirmed its readiness to participate in the Covid-19 vaccination process and administer vaccinations in pharmacies.
"Pharmacists have the experience, relevant education, and training to conduct vaccinations in local pharmacies, contributing to a faster vaccination coverage of the entire population," the statement said.
It is also emphasized that administering vaccines in pharmacies is a practice followed in many European Union countries and abroad.
