The number of measles cases in Cyprus has risen to 10
In the Republic of Cyprus, there are already 10 confirmed cases of measles. Among the infected are eight children and two adults.
According to local media reports, this was announced by the Director of Health Services, Elizabeth Constantinou. It is currently known that all 10 patients were not vaccinated against measles. One of the children, a 7-month-old baby, is still hospitalized.
The head of the Health Services also noted that each of the infected individuals can infect up to 17-18 people.
It is worth reminding that earlier there were reports of five infected children. Three hospitalized and two discharged children had contact with each other and are part of the same chain of disease transmission as they attend the same kindergarten.
Presumably, the "index patient" was a person living abroad. They transmitted the disease to the parent of a kindergarten attendee, who, in turn, infected their child. The infected child then spread the disease to two more children.
The World Health Organization and the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention have been sounding the alarm for several days due to the rapid spread of measles in European countries and beyond.
