Death Toll from Heatwave in Cyprus Rises to Two
Due to the severe heatwave in the Republic of Cyprus, two elderly women have died from heatstroke.
The state health organization confirmed the deaths of two women aged 84 and 91 years.
Both pensioners passed away a day after being admitted to the hospital. Preliminary reports suggest that the causes of death could be a heart attack and sudden cardiac arrest.
According to the Ministry of Health, the 84-year-old woman from Nicosia was hospitalized with heatstroke on Friday at a general hospital. She passed away on Saturday afternoon. The deceased became the second person to die from heatstroke due to the intense heat. The first death was recorded a day earlier, involving a 91-year-old woman.
Local media reports indicate that currently, three people—two men and one woman—are undergoing treatment at Nicosia General Hospital for symptoms typical of heatstroke.
