550 meters remain until the completion of the road from Pile to Yiğitler (Arsos)
There are 550 meters left until the completion of the construction of the road from Arsos (Yiğitler) to Pile. The remaining part will be completed during negotiations between the two municipalities.
This was announced yesterday by the mayor of Beyarmudu Municipality, Bülent Bebek, during a meeting dedicated to summarizing the year of his tenure as mayor.
One of the topics discussed was the construction of the road from Pile to Yiğitler (Arsos) in the buffer zone. According to the mayor, the work is in the final stage, with the last 550 meters remaining until the completion of the road. The remaining road will be completed during negotiations with the Cyprus-Greek administration.
Recall that the scandal surrounding the construction of the Pile - Yiğitler (Arsos) road flared up in August of this year after a clash between workers, TRNC police, and UN peacekeepers. After that, road construction was halted.
Construction work resumed at the end of October, made possible by the signing of the Pile Agreement on October 9. It envisages the construction of roads, including the Yiğitler-Pile direction, as well as the movement of people and products. Thanks to the agreement, understanding was reached between Greek Cypriots and Turkish Cypriots separately with the UN peacekeeping forces (UNFICYP).
In addition, within the framework of the agreement, a bi-communal village with 400 houses will be built. This will be the first joint urban and residential development project for the two communities since 1974.
However, construction was again frozen after the Turkish Cypriot side complained that Greek Cypriots were violating the terms of the agreement.
