Ersin Tatar: Solar Power Station in the Buffer Zone to Serve as a Model for Collaboration
President of the TRNC, Ersin Tatar, held a briefing regarding the photovoltaic park planned for the buffer zone. According to the leader of Northern Cyprus, the power station will serve as a model for collaboration between the two communities.
The leader of Turkish Cypriots hosted Professor Murat Fahrioğlu from the Middle East Technical University and Professor Serkan Abbasoğlu from the Cyprus International University at his residence, who acted as technical experts on behalf of the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus.
During the visit, the president was informed about the results of the final stage of the technical and economic justification for establishing a photovoltaic park. The decision to build it in the buffer zone was reached through an agreement between the leaders of the two communities on November 9.
In his speech at the reception, the president emphasized that Cyprus has a very favorable climate for solar energy production. He stated that the planned solar power station in the buffer zone would benefit both sides, both communities, and the island as a whole. Furthermore, he highlighted that it would serve as a model for cooperation.
The leader of Northern Cyprus also noted that electricity is essential for both sides, and the implementation of this project would facilitate comprehensive cooperation on this issue in the future. Ultimately, the goal is to connect the island's power grid to the European Union's integrated system through Turkey, making solar energy utilization more efficient.
Recall that the Pile Agreement was signed between the two communities on October 9. It includes the construction of two roads, including the Yigitler-Pile route, as well as the movement of people and products. According to the European Union's "green line" regulations, this traffic must be controllable.
Additionally, within the framework of the agreement, a cross-community village with 400 houses and infrastructure for the photovoltaic park will be built. This will be the first joint urban and residential development project of the two communities since 1974.
