European Parliament Presents Exhibition in Cyprus
The European Parliament is hosting an exhibition titled Art in Democracy in Cyprus. The exhibition will open on November 18 at the Old Town Hall in Nicosia’s Eleftheria Square, with the President of the Republic, Nikos Christodoulides, officially inaugurating the event.
After traveling from Brussels and Strasbourg, the exhibition will be showcased in Nicosia, where it will run until January 29, supported by Nicosia 2030. The exhibition highlights the “struggle for democratic values through the eyes of contemporary European artists.”
The exhibition will feature works from the European Parliament's prestigious art collection, which was founded in 1980 by Simone Veil, the first president of the directly elected European Parliament. With over 500 pieces, the collection reflects Europe’s motto, “Unity in Diversity”. It continues to grow each year, becoming a significant part of Europe’s cultural heritage and identity.
The Nicosia exhibition will include a selection of works organized into seven thematic sections, all focused on the theme of “democracy.” The pieces address important questions such as “What is democracy?”, “Why was the European Union founded on this principle?”, and “What are the democratic values that define Europe?”
The exhibition will be on display throughout the Christmas season.
