Farmers Protest Water Cutoff in Paphos
Farmers in Paphos protested on Monday against a water cutoff that prevents them from irrigating their fields, demanding state support.
Over 20 farmers from the Paphos area gathered in Timi, voicing complaints that the water management authority had reduced the amount of water available for their seasonal crops.
The farmers claimed they were supposed to receive 70 percent of last year's volume, but due to a dry winter, this water had already been used up.
Currently, the Asprokremmos Dam is only filled to 50 percent capacity. The farmers were informed that there would be no permission for planting seasonal crops in the summer.
Coupled with higher rents for fields, survival is becoming an issue for farmers.
"We want support for ourselves, our families, and our employees to sustain our livelihoods," stated the protesting farmers.
