Cyprus to Convene Road Safety Council After Series of Fatal Accidents

Recent days have seen a troubling series of major road incidents in Cyprus. Three of these accidents resulted in fatalities, with children among the injured. The recent increase in serious accidents will be addressed at a meeting of the Road Safety Council.

The Road Safety Council meeting is scheduled for September 11. Participants will discuss strategies to prevent severe accidents and mishaps on the country’s roads.

The meeting will include the Minister of Transport, the Minister of Justice and Public Order, and representatives from the police.

In preparation for the meeting, the Minister of Transport plans to consult with public works experts on the issue.

For context, an elderly woman who had been hospitalized following an accident on August 11 passed away on Monday morning. On Monday evening, a serious traffic collision in Limassol injured seven people, including a 4-year-old child. Another fatal accident occurred on Monday, claiming the life of 21-year-old Neophytos Konstantis. Additionally, on Tuesday morning, a 20-year-old Nigerian football club rookie died in a road accident.

In total, three people died in three separate accidents within just one day.
