Due to the ongoing abnormal heatwave in Cyprus, primary schools and kindergartens have been partially closed. Additionally, there is a prohibition on outdoor work during daytime hours under the scorching sun.

According to the Ministry of Education, due to the expected high temperatures on Friday, June 14th, classes in primary schools, kindergartens, and special schools will be suspended at 10:45. Optional daytime schools will not operate on this day.

"Based on recommendations from the meteorological service and the Ministry of Health, classes in all primary schools will be suspended at 10:45 on Friday, June 14th, a day expected to have particularly high temperatures," the ministry statement said.

Parents and guardians are strongly advised to ensure the safe transport of their children home. Those wishing to keep their children at home for the entire day on Friday will be permitted to do so, as their absence will be considered justified.

It is noted that this week, Cyprus schools have commenced their final exams. Summer holidays have already begun in many educational institutions since Thursday.

Furthermore, due to the heat in Cyprus, outdoor work during daytime hours has been prohibited.

"The Labor Inspection Department of the Ministry of Labor and Social Insurance informs employers and self-employed individuals that due to the meteorological department's warning of extremely high temperatures, outdoor work should be suspended from 12:00 to 16:00," the department's message stated.

Meanwhile, the Meteorological Bureau has issued an orange warning effective from 12:00 to 17:00 on Thursday, and the Forestry Department has noted that the fire risk remains at "red alert level."

It is expected that the maximum temperature within the country will rise to approximately 43 degrees Celsius, while in the high mountains it will reach about 34 degrees Celsius.
