The signing of the Memorandum by the Minister of Internal Affairs, Konstantinos Ioannou, and the Minister of Climate Crisis and Civil Protection of Greece, Vasilis Kikilias, aims to enhance cooperation and collaboration on issues related to the implementation of the unified European emergency number 112.

The Memorandum of Understanding is the outcome of an intergovernmental meeting held in Athens in November of last year, during which it was decided to strengthen cooperation between Cyprus and Greece on a wide range of issues, including civil protection.

The Memorandum of Understanding aims to define the framework for cooperation between the two countries for the effective implementation of communication services offered by 112. These services include, among other things, receiving and managing all calls to the 112 number, as well as sending warning messages in emergencies.

"With the signing of the Memorandum, cooperation between the two countries is established, allowing the Republic of Cyprus to implement a modern and reliable civil protection system and timely inform citizens," the statement said.

Under the agreement, Cyprus and Greece will further develop cooperation through the exchange of best practices, conducting joint educational seminars and programs to train 112 service personnel and officials, and raising public awareness about the use of the unified number.
