Cyprus draws Europe’s and the world’s attention thanks to EuroBasket 2025

President of the Republic of Cyprus, Nikos Christodoulides, stated that the country has found itself at the center of European and international attention thanks to hosting matches of the European Basketball Championship (FIBA EuroBasket 2025). The Head of State made this statement on August 28, before the match between the national teams of Cyprus and Bosnia and Herzegovina at the "Spyros Kyprianou" Arena in Limassol.

It is the first time that the Republic of Cyprus has been entrusted with organizing EuroBasket, highlighting the island’s growing role in the sporting and cultural life of the region. The President emphasized that hosting such a major international tournament contributes to the development of the country’s sports infrastructure and enhances its tourist appeal.

For the people of Cyprus, EuroBasket means an increase in international visitors, expanded opportunities for business and tourism, as well as temporary reinforcement of security measures and transport restrictions in match areas. Authorities recommend planning travel in advance on days of major sporting events.

According to tourism agencies, large international tournaments traditionally attract investments and help shape a positive image of the Republic on the global stage. In the past, organizers noted a noticeable increase in hotel occupancy and the catering sector in host cities.
