Cypriots are flocking abroad for the New Year
Cypriots prefer to celebrate the New Year abroad, with the main destinations being Greece, the United Kingdom, and Central European countries.
As Charis Papacharalambous, the President of the Cyprus Association of Travel Agents (ACTA), shared in an interview with the Cyprus News Agency, this year the number of Cypriots traveling abroad is slightly lower than before the pandemic. The year 2019 was previously the best for Cypriot outbound trips.
According to the expert, there are no exact figures at the moment since some people plan trips independently. Official statistics are expected to be available in a few weeks after the holiday period.
For New Year's holidays, Cypriots primarily choose Greece as their destination, followed by the United Kingdom, Austria, France, Italy, Hungary, the Czech Republic, Poland, Romania, and Germany.
The average duration of Cypriots' stay abroad during the holiday period is between 4 to 5 nights.
The increase in the number of Cypriots traveling abroad is attributed to the affordability of prices, which "were not excessively high during this period," and a shift in perception – what was once considered a luxury has become a more common phenomenon.
Additionally, the accessibility of destinations compared to 2019 played a role, primarily due to improvements in transportation, especially during the winter season.
