Crypto Scammers Deceive Limassol Resident Using QR Code
The Cyprus police are investigating a new case of cryptocurrency fraud in which a 36-year-old Limassol resident was scammed out of his entire savings.
According to the police press office, the victim reported the incident to authorities yesterday. He explained that fraudsters stole a large sum of his cryptocurrency through a QR code scam.
On November 5, the victim began an online conversation with an individual who claimed to be interested in purchasing cryptocurrency from him. After reaching an agreement, the supposed buyer suggested he send a small test amount to confirm the transaction could be processed smoothly.
At that point, the scammer provided the victim with a QR code and instructed him to scan it to complete the test transaction. However, as soon as he scanned the code, he realized that all the funds in his wallet had disappeared.
The Limassol Crime Investigation Department (TAE) is currently handling the case.
