Lidl Cyprus: €133 million to the economy and 2,000 jobs — a new socio-economic report published

Lidl Cyprus has published its sixth annual report on socio-economic impact, confirming that the company remains a significant player in Cyprus's economy and social sector.
According to the 2024 Socioeconomic Impact Report, Lidl Cyprus contributed €133 million to the country's economy, equivalent to 0.43% of Cyprus's GDP. Furthermore, every €1 of the company’s direct contribution generates an additional €0.46 in economic value.
Key figures from the report:
- Jobs: Lidl Cyprus supports around 2,000 jobs (direct, indirect, and related), representing 0.40% of total employment in the country.
- Taxes and contributions: In 2024, the company paid €22 million in taxes and social contributions — 0.17% of all state tax revenues.
- Support for local producers: Lidl cooperates with over 400 Cypriot suppliers.
- Exports: Through the international Lidl network, Cypriot products were exported to 27 countries for €28.8 million, of which €26 million was halloumi.
- 100% local meat: Chicken, pork, and beef are sourced exclusively from Cypriot producers.
- Fruits and vegetables: More than 130 varieties, with 57% of vegetable department turnover coming from local products.
In 2024, Lidl Cyprus allocated €589.7 thousand to social and environmental initiatives.
Of this amount:
- €564.6 thousand — for sustainable and social projects
- €25.1 thousand — for food assistance to vulnerable groups
The company emphasizes that it continues to operate within the UN Sustainable Development Goals framework, investing in the environment, education, and support for local communities.
Lidl Cyprus states that it will continue to focus not only on business but also on creating real value for society and the country's economy.
