Turkey and Greece to Build a New 800-Meter Bridge

Authorities of Turkey and Greece have reached an agreement to construct a new bridge that will connect the border checkpoints of the two countries. The construction of the overpass over the Meriç River will commence in 2024.

According to several local media outlets, the 811-meter-long bridge will link the border checkpoints of Ipsala in Turkey and Kipi in Greece. It is expected that the structure will significantly expedite the border crossing process between the border posts, as well as passenger and freight transport.

It is known that the project will be implemented through the partnership of the two countries. The Turkish part of the bridge will be constructed by the General Directorate of Highways, while the Greek part will be built by the Greek government.

The main length of the four-lane bridge will be 811 meters, with a section over the river spanning 344 meters. Additionally, the construction of an emergency road and a sidewalk is planned.

It is also noted that the existing two-lane bridge, built in 1958 to facilitate passage over the river between the border checkpoints, is no longer able to accommodate the increasing automobile traffic between the two countries.
