Man hangs from bridge at Eleftheria Square in Nicosia — rescued by police and passers-by
At noon on Friday, November 21, 2025, in the center of Nicosia, Cyprus, a man was seen hanging from a small bridge at Eleftheria Square; the incident was captured on video obtained by the news outlet Omega Live.
The footage shows the man climbing onto a marble structure and beginning to shout, reportedly in a delirious state, according to witnesses. Witnesses said that the act appeared intentional, not accidental.
Emergency services intervened quickly: officers from the criminal investigation and traffic police units arrived at the scene and, with the help of passers-by and staff from nearby shops, prevented the man from falling. Eyewitnesses noted that without their call to the police, the consequences could have been more serious.
According to the publication, the assistance of passers-by and shop staff played an important role in preventing a tragedy. The video from the scene is published on the Omega Live website.
