Driver Arrested in Cyprus for Hitting Police Officer on Motorcycle
In Cyprus, a 40-year-old man has been arrested on suspicion of attempting to murder a police officer. The suspect allegedly struck the officer in Nicosia with his car.
According to the police press service, the incident occurred around 4:30 p.m. on Saturday on Uzunyana Street. The police officer, riding a patrol motorcycle, noticed a suspicious vehicle parked on the roadside, reportedly with the 40-year-old man inside, who is under investigation for several traffic violations.
Upon the officer's request to present documents, the suspect started his car and drove towards the police officer. The car collided with the officer's motorcycle, causing various injuries.
The suspect fled the scene in an unknown direction, damaging three parked cars along the way.
The injured police officer was taken to Nicosia General Hospital for treatment.
According to the police, the driver who hit the police officer was arrested on Sunday afternoon and is currently in custody. He is scheduled to appear in court today.
