“American” Coronavirus Strain Spreads in Cyprus: Symptoms and Medical Recommendations
In the Republic of Cyprus, cases of a new coronavirus strain are increasing daily. Summer vacations and travel are contributing to the heightened viral load in the region.
According to doctors, the island is currently experiencing an outbreak of the "highly contagious variant" of COVID-19. Combined with a recent lack of vaccinations, this has led to a global increase in person-to-person transmission.
“This strain originated in the United States and then spread to the UK and Europe. It has further disseminated to Greece and Cyprus due to the influx of tourists,” medical experts explain.
The variant is described as highly infectious but not particularly alarming. However, experts advise individuals who test positive to be especially cautious. Symptoms are typical: sore throat, nasal congestion, and fever.
Medical recommendations include a mild isolation period of five days for those who are infected. It is advised to avoid crowded places and use masks at such events.
Additionally, according to the OKYpY Health Service, 50 patients have been hospitalized in state hospitals. None are in intensive care units.
