Popular Brand Perfumes Recalled from Sale in Cyprus Due to Dangerous Chemicals
Several well-known brand perfumes have been removed from sale in Cyprus after it was discovered that they contain banned substances.
According to a notice sent to EU member states through the RAPEX system, dozens of branded fragrances have been recalled from the European Union market due to the presence of the harmful chemical butylphenylmethylpropional (BMHCA).
Cyprus' pharmaceutical authorities have stated that investigations are ongoing to determine the countries to which these products were exported.
The list includes perfumes such as Iceberg "Twice Eau de Toilette", Dior "Poison Eau de Toilette", Byblos "Metal Eau de Toilette", Yves Saint Laurent "Cinéma Eau de Toilette", Nazareno Gabrielli "1907 Eau de Toilette", Rockford Eau de Toilette, and several cosmetic products from popular brands like Nivea Sun's After Sun Lotion Spray with Aloe Vera and Gucci Guilty Black Aftershave. A complete list of affected items can be found here.
The authorities advise the public to stop using the recalled products and contact the pharmaceutical services at 22608606 or 22608682 if they have already purchased any of them.
RAPEX is an EU system designed to facilitate the rapid exchange of information between member states, particularly concerning product safety and liability (excluding food and pharmaceuticals). When a member state takes action to prevent or restrict the marketing and use of a product due to significant safety concerns, it is obligated to notify the European Commission through RAPEX immediately.
