Chairman of the Electricity Authority, Georgios Petrou, assured that power outages are a thing of the past.

“The heat has subsided, air conditioners are not overloading the grid. Power supply is stable, we have reserves,” he noted.

At the same time, the head of EAC admitted: the system is worn out. Four generators failed in recent days. Two have already been restarted, the other two will be back online tomorrow. “The equipment is old, and periodic shutdowns are unavoidable,” added Petrou.

As a solution, authorities are betting on infrastructure upgrades: in Dekelia, two new generators with a capacity of 80 MW each are planned, along with the creation of a 160 MWh energy storage facility. The project implementation will take from one to one and a half years.
