Mammography centers in Cyprus have been upgraded with the installation of digital tomosynthesis mammography systems
Mammography centers in Cyprus have been renovated and equipped with new digital mammography machines with tomosynthesis capability, Health Minister Michalis Damianos said on Thursday during his visit to the Breast Center in Aglantzia, located at the Aglantzia Health Center.
The minister urged all women within the age groups covered by the screening program to actively participate in preventive examinations. According to him, early diagnosis saves lives, making participation essential.
The ministry’s statement noted that screening under the preventive program is not covered by the General Healthcare System (GeSY), as it is a separate public health program, and is provided completely free of charge by the Ministry of Health.
The population-based breast cancer screening program has been implemented in all cities of Cyprus since 2003 and is aimed at women aged 45 to 74, in line with the latest European Union recommendations. Its goal is early detection and reducing mortality using modern and effective methods.
The minister also noted that staff undergo regular training, ensuring high service standards and awareness of modern technologies and practices. The process is now conducted with electronic documents (paperless), improving management efficiency and reducing environmental impact.
The Breast Center in Aglantzia is one of the institutions where the Ministry implements initiatives for the prevention and early diagnosis of breast cancer in Cyprus.
