Cyprus to open applications for land compensation in Akamas
The Ministry of Agriculture, Rural Development and Environment announced the extension of the compensation support measure for landowners in the Akamas area of Cyprus for a second year. Electronic applications will be accepted from October 1 to 31, 2025, via the platform www.support-akamas.com.
Measure 1, introduced in 2024 under the local Akamas plan, aims to protect the natural environment and promote sustainable development. In 2025, both individuals and legal entities (companies) owning plots within the boundaries of the local Akamas plan in conservation areas, agricultural and livestock zones totaling approximately 93,460 decares, are eligible to participate.
The annual subsidy under the measure may reach €6,600 per recipient. The total program budget for 2024–2028 is €25 million. At the end of the five-year period, the measure will be reviewed based on its effectiveness and associated social and economic initiatives.
To receive support, landowners must maintain the plots in their existing natural state. Agricultural activities already carried out on the plots may continue; idle plots must preserve natural vegetation. Fences and interventions altering the natural state are prohibited; plots with illegal constructions are excluded.
Applications can only be submitted by the owner through www.support-akamas.com using a verified CYlogin account (formerly "Ariadni"). For inquiries, a support phone line at 22408952 and an email address provided in the official announcement are available.
