In Cyprus, International Museum Day will be celebrated
A series of events will take place in the Republic of Cyprus to mark International Museum Day. On Saturday, May 18, residents of Nicosia will have the opportunity to visit certain museums and galleries in the capital for free.
A series of cultural events will be held at the AG Leventis Art Gallery. On Thursday evening, there will be a musical event as part of the exhibition “1,2,3… Paint.” Visitors are invited to join the interactive exhibition and paint to the music of the global underground electronic scene.
Friday evening at the gallery will be dedicated to theatrical performances on artistic themes. “Alpha Square” will present a play featuring works by Rothko, Waxman, Bacon, Freud, Picasso, and Da Vinci. The performance will begin at 7:30 PM and will be conducted in Greek.
On Saturday, the gallery, in collaboration with Apac Labs, will present visitors with the vast potential of new technologies in studying and analyzing works of art using examples from the exhibition hall collection.
The Centre of Visual Arts and Research (CVAR – Severis) will also host an event dedicated to International Museum Day. This Saturday, from 11:00 AM to 12:30 PM, an educational program for children called “Inside the Museum” will take place here. Young visitors will have the opportunity to explore the CVAR collections and learn about Cyprus history through exhibits spanning centuries.
On Saturday, there will also be a walking performance at the Cyprus Museum, organized by the Department of Antiquities of the Ministry of Culture. The four-scene play, “True Stories: Invented Theatre during the Swedish Cyprus Expedition (1927-1931),” offers a walk inside and outside the museum.
The performance recounts why four Swedish archaeologists, who arrived in Cyprus in the early 20th century, stayed on the island for almost four years.
Performances will take place on Saturday at 8:00 PM, 9:00 PM, and 10:00 PM. The event will be conducted in Greek, English, and Turkish.
