Vegetable and Greens Prices Surge in Cyprus, But Olive Oil Drops in Cost
The Cyprus Consumer Protection Agency has released updated data on the prices of consumer goods for December 2024. The report includes 250 essential products sold across 400 stores throughout Cyprus.
According to the report, food and non-alcoholic beverages saw the biggest price increase over the past year, rising by 7.6%. The largest price hikes were observed in vegetables and greens, which soared by 30.7% in just one month and 38.8% year-on-year. Fresh fish prices climbed by 9.2% for the month and 24.4% over the year. Similarly, fresh meat prices increased by 8% in December and 6.8% over the year, while sugar prices rose by 5.9% and 18.2%, respectively.
In contrast, the price of olive oil dropped by 8.3% in December 2024. Other products that saw price reductions include baked goods (down 10%), flour (down 7.6%), and coffee (down 6.6%).
Experts suggest these changes in pricing are influenced by the increase in inflation, which rose to 3.1% in December, 2.6% higher than the previous month.
