In the Republic of Cyprus, there may soon be a Ministry of Immigration
Discussions on the articles of the bill to establish an agency overseeing the country's migration policy began on November 23 in the parliamentary committee on internal affairs.
The text of the bill to create the new ministry has been published on the website of the Ministry of Interior of Cyprus.
It is expected that the new agency will oversee the country's migration policy, deal with issues of migration, issuance of residence permits, granting citizenship, and certain humanitarian statuses. According to local media reports, the document will be voted on in parliament in January 2024.
It is also noted that at present, a significant portion of these issues falls under the jurisdiction of the Ministry of Interior and the Ministry of Social Welfare. Some of these responsibilities will be transferred to the new agency.
