Minor Earthquake Shakes Cyprus
A small earthquake was recorded in Cyprus over the weekend, with tremors felt in different parts of the island.
According to the Euro-Mediterranean Seismological Center, the earthquake struck on Sunday afternoon, shortly after 1:00 PM. It had a magnitude of 3.0 on the Richter scale, with its epicenter located 15.6 km deep, about 28 km west of Nicosia.
Many residents across the island noticed the tremors around midday, with reports indicating that the shaking was most noticeable in the Limassol region. Former president of the TRNC Chamber of Geophysical Engineers, Oğuz Vadilili, also confirmed the event.
“According to the Kandilli Observatory, a 3.0-magnitude earthquake was recorded near Zümrütköy, Nicosia. Residents in the area experienced mild tremors,” he wrote on social media.
There were no reports of injuries or structural damage.
