Livestock Farm Burns Down in Cyprus, Where Parents Had Abused Five Children
A livestock farm in Cyprus was destroyed by fire last night, a property where five children had been living and had previously reported abuse at the hands of their parents last week.
According to emergency services, the fire broke out shortly after midnight. Three fire trucks responded to the scene, and the flames were contained before reaching the animal pens. Unfortunately, the fire completely destroyed the building where the children had been staying, which was reportedly the site where they had been subjected to abuse by their parents.
The cause of the fire is still under investigation by both the fire department and the police. Preliminary findings suggest the possibility of arson.
For context, at the end of last week, Larnaca police arrested a couple suspected of abusing their five children for an extended period. The parents had allegedly forced their children to work, and one of the minors came forward to report sexual abuse.
On Friday, the couple appeared directly before the Permanent Criminal Court, which ruled that they would remain in custody until May 5th. The court proceedings will be held behind closed doors to protect the rights of the minor victims.
