AN ANTI-TERRORISM POLICE UNIT HAS BEEN ESTABLISHED IN CYPRUS
The Police of the Republic of Cyprus has created a special unit whose purpose is to prevent terrorist attacks against Palestinians and Israelis in Cyprus. The new structure will collect, record and analyze any information that may be related to incidents against either of the two communities.
Senior police officers were briefed on the new unit and headquarters provided officers with instructions on how to handle any suspicious information.
In addition, according to Politis, regional police units are being strengthened, and national guard officers are constantly working at airports.
Meanwhile, the police continue an internal investigation, staged after the leak of two lists that listed Israeli organizations in Limassol that were at risk of attack.
One list was handwritten, the other typed, and included companies, schools, restaurants and hotels that were either of interest to Israel or popular among Israeli citizens.
The lists were prepared immediately after the brutal Hamas attack in Israel on October 7.
It is believed that the information was leaked due to unprofessional conduct by police officers in disseminating it, which resulted in the information reaching members of the public and being published on the Internet.
